The Calling

Look, we are all called to do something. We are either leaders, followers, writers, readers, helpers or hurters.  When the phone rings and you are called, what is the man on the other side of the phone asking you to do?  It’s time to let us know why you have been called.

This week, we have the talented YeYo as our host. She has been dropping in the LAB on FB and is out doing spoken word. Please come out and support her and her works with your comments and your poems.

    • I like the style in which your flow has taken as well as the many combination of metaphors enlisted in this piece YeYo…..nice ink!

      The Calling

      Well i realize i possess a quality unique unto myself given at birth;
      The metaphysical emergence of a prominent pupa’s worth;
      Been tested in my larva stage metamorphosis as a constant first;
      Undergoing the change needed enabling to quench any thirst;
      Be it natural or supernatural i be that extraordinary source;
      Knowing my appointment a specially convened & created force;
      Assembling the masses for a common purpose of course;
      Existing just long enough in it as the true reasoning surfaces;
      Finding solutions to nullify disputes unriddling the puzzled situation
      Rendering the state of many affairs a new idea thought or suggestion;
      Changing the former course associating it with a forward consideration;
      That be my typical distinctive qualities embodied characteristics for each & every mission.

  3. The Calling
    By David Cardenas

    Okay, this is my calling; to spit words
    Drop some of the illest shit you ever heard
    To be a leader, uplift my people through verse
    Feed them knowledge, no matter the hurt

    No matter the pain, the lost or the everyday joy
    My words can build as fast as they can destroy
    I stand before you a man that is truly broken
    Unable to spit, so my words begin chocking

    I keep gasping for air; trying to grasp the moment
    Hoping life will slow down, waiting for my atonement
    Each word that comes out is a piece or a component
    But they can also be weapons used by my opponent

    So instead of feeding my people words to heal
    I drop some vile shit that maims and kills
    The phone keeps ringing, I know God is calling
    But I’m afraid to pick up, so I keep stalling

    I didn’t realize my words held so much power
    That I a bullshit rhyme actually could devour
    He said, “David, you speak things into existence”
    I didn’t believe Him, now I see death in the distance

    I should have listened… I should have just listened…

  7. Nicholas Malone

    I been called by god
    To spread my essence
    Thru my literature
    And to demolish
    The diabolic minds
    Of the superiors
    Submerged in my words
    Holds salvation and freedom
    My mind, soul and pen
    Is an incredible threesome
    Scriptures from my scrolls
    Influence my readers
    To think outside the box
    And become world leaders
    My job is to heal torn hearts
    And broken minds
    I inflect inspiration
    Restoring vision to the blind
    I open closed-minds
    To the real and not the fake
    False profits condemn you
    Attempting to paralyze your faith
    Reading between the lines
    My mind starts to clench
    My hunger for higher learning
    Cannot be quenched
    The gift of poetry
    Can warm a cold heart
    Gasoline is my ink
    When I write I shoot sparks
    Sparking your creativity
    To a new plateau
    New ideas are like plants
    Give them sun
    Watch them grow
    We all have a choice
    And we all have a purpose
    To live happy and rejoice
    Or get annihilated with the serpents
    We all will be called
    And when the phone rings
    Press answer and listen
    Because angels do sing…..

  9. Opportunity Knocked,
    But the door went unanswered
    I refused to get up and see who it was

    I laid there high off stress
    Doped up on anger
    Confusion was the pusher of my drugs

    My mind screams, who am I?
    Or is the question, who do you want me to be
    Seems people can only accept you if your someone else

    I was created in a manner
    Only Befitting for me, it seems
    And the world wonders why my emotions sit on a shelf

    I’ll never live up to life’s expectations
    Slowly starting to understand
    I’m different, this always going to be a fact

    Experience has pave my way
    Allah has invested in me
    But the shaytaan always seem to push me off track

    In Allah I seek guidance,
    In myself I seek strength
    Because when I think I’m getting up, I’m really still falling

    So opportunity can knock
    An I’ll never be able to get up
    It’s the strange fate I live, its simply my calling
